Samenvatting

The fatality rate for traffic accidents occurring along curved sections of national roads in Hokkaido is high, because many such accidents in the prefecture are caused by off-street deviation. The Hokkaido Development Bureau, which is an administrator of the prefecture's national roads, has installed traffic signs to urge drivers to reduce their speeds and drive carefully. However, many signs are concentrated in some areas, which may reduce their effectiveness. To identify items requiring special consideration when installing traffic and other signs properly, an experiment using eye cameras was conducted. The cameras allowed us to analyze driver eye fixation points while they were driving through curved sections (non-urban areas) of national roads. (A*)
