This paper focuses on investigating elder drivers' characteristics when using visual information designed for narrow road drive assist systems. The drivers' behavior when using the following two systems was recorded and evaluated: one system is designed to impose a recommended route on the road (On-road type) and another system is designed to show it on the in-vehicle display (On-display type). The performances of elder drivers were compared with that of young drivers. Based on these results, a new method which sequentially shows steering angles for passing through the narrow road is proposed. The results imply that the information processing capacity of elder drivers when using the assist systems differs from that of young drivers. It can be said that the new method has a significant effect on realizing smooth passing at the narrow road, and the performance was similar to the On-road type system, which can be considered as an ideal way of providing information to drivers.
