In the provision of optimum route information to drivers based on the results of dynamic route searches conducted by using travel times changing from moment to moment, the drivers normally travel according to the optimum route information provided. While so doing, information on other optimum routes is provided one after another at different points. In this case, a hunting problem may occur if information on a route similar to the original one is provided again after the provision of information on a route different from the route initially provided. With respect to the occurrence of hunting in dynamic route searches using link travel times as input data, an investigation was conducted into the hunting problem by using field data collected from its traffic control (TC) system and it was found that the number of hunting occurrences could be reduced by its proposed method as reported in this paper.
