Samenvatting

On Japanese expressways, sodium chloride is mainly used as an deicing chemical. The amount used is tending to increase year-on-year, and environmental impact thought to be caused by anti-icing chemicals - namely, impact on the growth of fruit tree crops - has been confirmed in some regions. Tests were conducted to identify the relationship between the constituents ofanti-icing chemicals and their impact on plants, and the relationship between the timing of exposure to anti-icing chemical and its impact on plants, with the aim of formulating effective measures to combat environmental impact. As a result, it was confirmed that, in terms of the impact on plants, there was little difference between the constituents of anti-icing chemicals but a great difference between their concentrations, and that plants are more susceptible to the impact of anti-icing chemicals at the end ofwinter, when they enter their active phase.
