Samenvatting

The authors have conducted a survey of residents in the Tokyo metropolitan area to identify information needs in traveling in the urban area. Required information can be classified into five categories with two major axes of "basic information/real time information" and "travel assistance information/travel motivating information". The findings are that the needs for these five types of information vary depending on the stage of travel, such as prior to departure and at the time of arrival. These needs also vary depending on whether the individual is used to traveling a particular route. The authors have also studied the factors behind information needs and identified problems in the present manner of information delivery and also the structure of large cities.
