IN ORDER TO STUDY THE VEHICLE OCCUPANT PROTECTION IN SIDE COLLISIONS, AN ANALYSIS WAS MADE OF PROTECTIVE COUNTERMEASURES AND THEIR EFFECTS. THE EVALUATION PRIMARILY USED VEHICLE CRASH TESTS WHICH INCLUDED STATIC SLED EXPERIMENTS. PRACTICAL AND CONCRETE SOLUTIONS TO THE COUNTERMEASURES WERE OBTAINED FROM THE EXPERIMENTS, WHICH WERE USED TO DEVELOP AN EXPERIMENTAL NVR-II. FURTHER, VARIOUS PARAMETERS OF THE STRIKING CARS, SUCH AS IMPACT ENERGY, IMPACT POINT, ETC WERE EXAMINED TO DETERMINE THEIR INFLUENCE IN ORDER TO CLARIFY METHODS EVALUATING THE SAFETY OF OCCUPANTS OF VEHICLES INVOLVED IN A SIDE IMPACT.
