Samenvatting

The advantages of vehicle stability control are confirmed with the Steer by Wire system (SBW), which has no mechanical linkage between the steering wheel and the steering gear. SBW, however, has to be redundant to avoid a loss of steering if a failure occurs. On the other hand, with the electromechanical gear-ratio steering system, which has the advantages regarding fail-safe features, interference with the driver might occur when the active front-wheel steering control is applied. This paper describes the authors' evaluation result of the torque deviation that is transmitted to the driver during the active front-wheel steering control using computer simulation and the influence of the torque deviation upon the driver using the driving simulator, along with results showing that this torque deviation is in acceptable tolerance for steering maneuvering of the driver.
