Samenvatting

The Advanced Cruise - Assist Highway System (AHS) supports safe driving by providing drivers with information about a dangerous situation at the invisible area or that are beyond the range of easy visibility for a driver or a vehicle. A dangerous situation might happen, if AHS systems would not operate normally. It was studied to define malfunctions or failures (dangerous failures) of AHS to drivers, and to propose countermeasures to the dangerous failures. This study was carried out about a Forward Obstacle Collision Avoidance Assist System, as an example. It was clarified that a detection failure of the obstacle sensors was the most important factor to happen a dangerous situation. A 100% of safety and reliability cannot be realized for technical and economic reasons. Therefore, as the countermeasures of safety, practical safety integrity and addressing residual risks were studied. Countermeasures of safety in the cooperative vehicle - highway systems are proposed in this paper.
