The geographical distribution of the natural population increase between 1954 and 1959, in which the population in the Netherlands increased from 10.551.000 to 11.260.000 is dealt with. The population growth of the Metropolitan Areas and the urban municipalities is influenced by the suburbanization of the non-urban municipalities. This process of decentralised and unplanned urbanization threatens the development and the existence of a clear and rational spatial pattern of the Netherlands.
