Samenvatting

There are often discrepancies between subjective assessments of the safety of bicycle traffic infrastructures and accident frequency. Although cycle tracks in addition to the road are intended to improve road safety, high accident frequencies are registered in these areas. Investigations in Berlin show that, under the local conditions and even when traffic volume and accident severity are taken into account, roads with cycle paths are on average more dangerous for cyclists than roads without cycle paths.
