This special issue arises out of a conference held in December 1994 to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the chair of Safety Science in Delft. This issue is divided into three main sections; the first dealing with risk assessment and accident analysis, the second dealing with safety in design and the third with different aspects of safety management relating to companies and to transport systems.
