Supervision on home to school transport services : the escort's role and responsibility.

This paper examines the current legal requirements to provide adult supervision on home to school transport. The current practice in terms of the extent of adult supervision, escort training and the responsibilities of these staff is reviewed, based upon postal questionnaires of all Local Education Authorities undertaken in 1993 and 1994. Finally, the paper critically examines the safety case for adult supervision on home to school transport and argues that there should be a coherent framework defining the role and consequent training for such staff.
