This paper provides an overview of the activities of the FRAME-S Project, which is part of the 5th Framework Program run by the European Commission. The project provides support for the development and deployment of the European ITS Framework architecture in Europe. This support is described in this paper and is divided into the following three parts: (1) training in architecture deployment and development. Separate training is provided for decision makers and for architecture developers; (2) architecture updates and maintenance, and these ensure that the framework architecture remains relevant to the continual evolution of ITS; and (3) the provision of facilities that enable the Architecture to be studied and used as a starting point for further work. The FRAME-S Project carries out all of its work in conjunction with the FRAME-NET Project. This Project provides the European ITS framework architecture user forum and enables it to be involved in future Framework Architecture development and deployment.
