Samenvatting

Management of the rate and effect of skid-induced crashes on New Zealand’s public road network is a necessary contribution to economic sustainability. However, because of the variable nature of skid resistance, vehicle condition, driver behaviour and road condition, the process necessarily is about managing risk. Policies are needed to enable measures to be developed and implemented. This paper discusses the three issues of sustainability, policy and risk in the context of skid effects and road safety on the road network.
