Samenvatting

This paper sets out the factors that have contributed to gains in road safety performance in Victoria and the learnings flowing from recent experience. Measures to sustain future improvement in road safety outcomes are identified, including the fundamental importance of strengthening co-ordination and management arrangements and partnerships, and building upon known effective countermeasures. The paper also refers to the importance of timely, consistent advice in providing essential support for the political process to improve prospects for public leadership. It concludes with a reminder that the community can have the level of road trauma it is prepared to accept. (a) For the covering entry of this conference, please see ITRD abstract no. E214057.
