Samenvatting

This paper compares two groups of novice drivers to determine whether increased number of hours in driver training changed the driver's mental workload. The test group had been in driver training since age sixteen, the control group since seventeen and a half. Subjects drove an instrumented car round a test track under various conditions, including performing a mental calculation task. No significant difference was shown between the test and control groups in term of mental workload, although there was a tendency towards lower workload for the test group.
