Cycle pilot study: Effect of bike street with limited car traffic in Porsgrunn

Bicycle streets with limited car traffic is an intervention based on signs that is being tested to facilitate cycling. TØI has evaluated this measure through pre and post studies in Porsgrunn. Video recordings show that accessibility is reasonably good for cyclists. The differences in speed between the pre- and post-examination are insignificant. Field interviews do not indicate that there are major problems for cyclists in Storgata. However, a significant proportion report that they are to some extent hindered by other road users, primarily by cars, and both cyclists and pedestrians report to a greater extent in the follow-up survey that they were hindered by other cyclists and pedestrians. There were relatively small differences between the pre- and post-survey. The assessments of how good it is to cycle were a little more positive in the follow-up survey.
