In parallel with commercially launched services such as WAP (wireless application protocol)-based and RDS-TMC (radio data service-traffic message channel) services, the France Telecom group leads an experiment of a routing service available with a Palm and a cellular phone. Taking advantage of an open software platform, the service allows the end user to have a comprehensive view of road networks and to receive traffic-dependent routes using specific compression algorithms.
