Samenvatting
The main topic of this paper is the application of the systems analysis to the field of transport. The reasons for the development of the systems analysis are given. The most important characteristics of this approach are mentioned. Initiatives for an integral approach within the research of transport are pointed out. On the basis of a model presented for the transport system, a classification is given of the research of transport. Subsequently, this classification is applied on the field of the safety of the transport. The necessity of developments in education and research at the University of Delft is indicated in relation to an integral and multidisciplinary approach at the design of transport systems or components of these systems.
