Interest in public transport has increased a lot over the last ten years. This is also shown by recent studies on the economic efficiency of the recent public transport systems. The Delft University has proposed a theory of system development in which the public transport is built up in a systematic manner. The results were verified in a chosen region, the Westland, to see if the public transport system built up by this theory was better than the existing system. It is concluded that the main inprovements made by the new system occur in journeys between the bigger centres in the transport network and in longer journeys. The frequency of the public transport will increase a lot. However the level of service between small centres and on short distances will decrease.
