COFIROUTE and ESCOTA, two major highway concession operators, have developed and implemented a system that manages events occurring on their networks and generates information transmitted to motorists. The SATIR software package, a main component of this system, collects events characteristics, automatically generates messages to be broadcast, manages events in real-time and provides assistance for the operation of the highway network. The system is able to control automatic equipment for the collection of traffic and meteorological data and motorist information. SATIR is a powerful tool for traffic monitoring and forecasting. (A)
