Samenvatting

Systems engineering is the key to achieving "optimum" driver-vehicle interfaces, especially when applied to IVHS/Telematics. The in-vehicle communication system must be capable of operating in an open environment using a "grid" of on- and off-board communication and sensor networks that integrate IVHS/Telematic operational characteristics with the driver interface. The approach presented here has been guided and confirmed by human factors/market research studies. Results were achieved by using driver-assisted and limited authority controls - introducing a "new dimension" to the driver interface. (A)
