Samenvatting

This paper presents and discusses the results of a questionnaire survey which enabled respondents to subjectively assess their own driving habits. The questionnaire was designed so that the questions asked aimed at estimating the same capacities from different angles so that further cross checks could be made as regards the accuracy of the self assessment. There were 1,033 respondents aged 18 or over, 764 of which were drivers. Visual impairment was the most common disability reported. Statistics are provided of visual and hearing difficulties for the whole population surveyed as a function of age. An analysis of the FAMC (Factorial Analysis of Multiple Correspondences) type was carried out in order to determine the relationships between the different types of functional impairment (visual, auditory or motor). Six classes of respondents were defined using a hierarchical ascending classification of the data obtained. These classes were: 1) those respondents with no impairment (39% of the sample); 2) myopia (18.1%); 3) presbyopia (22%); 4) no dominant problem (6.6%); 5) hearing problems (7.3%); and 6) mobility problems (6%).
