Samenvatting

VicRoads recently commissioned Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC) to develop potential solutions at a particular intersection site with a strong crash trend and no apparent cause. Despite several previous attempts at alerting motorists of the approaching intersection, crashes had persisted, and a more detailed analysis of the site was required. Although a potential cause of the crashes has now been identified, selection of the most suitable solution by VicRoads is still in progress, and so the actual site will not be identified in this paper. The case study, however, is used to illustrate how other factors not included in the police reports and not evident through site inspections, can have a very influential role at a crash site, particularly in relation to older drivers.
