In the framework of the European Alcolock project, coordinated by the Belgian Road Safety Institute (IBSR), and born by a consortium composed by the German Federal Highway Research Institute (Bast), the Dutch Institute for Road Safety Research (SWOV), the Norwegian Institute of Transport Economics (TØI) and the University of Valladolid, the IBSR will start an alcolock trial with 60 drivers. In this study three types of breath alcohol ignition interlock devices (BAIID) have been investigated: Dräger Interlock XT (Dräger), WR2 and WR3 (ACS). The devices have been evaluated according the Belgian legislation for breath testing devices (KB 538, 18 February 1991) and the results are compared to the technical data sent by the manufacturer. The devices have been tested quantitatively as well as qualitatively. Each test was carried out on three different devices sent by the manufacturer after a complete calibration. (Author/publisher)
