Twenty passenger cars and one passenger bus have been equipped with an Intelligent Speed Adaptation System (ISA) for a one-year trial period in an urban area. Main objective of this trial run in the Netherlands is to assess the public acceptance of this speed enforcing ISA System. This paper discusses the technical feasibility of ISA. The ISA system in the vehicle consists of a number of standard components, including a GPS-receiver and a speed limiter. These components have already individually proven their quality on the market. The combination of a GPS-receiver and a speed limiter, however, is new.
