Technology is now available which can automatically classify, weigh and identify individual vehicles while in motion to provide needed information for the better management of freight operations. This paper reports briefly on recent technical developments, potential applications and the results of market research into the benefits, issues and concerns raised with utilization of emerging technology for the freight industry in Australia.
