An analysis of the market context for Transport Telematics in Europe was performed leading to an assessment of the demand, supply and market potential. While applications in public transport and in traffic management are currently more developed, the private car park related TT systems (driver information and vehicle control systems) have much greater potential. The market potential of the equipment is estimated to be approximately equal to 193 GECU (replacement and maintenance excluded). Car driver TT-related services have a potential which is approximately equal to the potential of the equipment markets. The annual market potential, once the market has been saturated both for equipment and for services, should be worth 57 GECU. The analysis by country shows that the total market potential mainly reflects the economic development of the country, even though country-specific features can affect specific market segments.
