Samenvatting

Many scientists suggest that the demand for office space will drop significantly in the near future due to a drastic increase of the number of teleworkers. The fast-emerging applications of telecommunication services will lead to a boom in teleworking. Telework will be furthermore stimulated by employers to reduce travel expenses and workplace costs. Congestion problems can be solved by telecommuting. Despite the many advantages most employers are still opposed to teleworking. In this paper, the results of a study on the impact of the growth of telework on the future demand for office space in The Netherlands are summarized. It is argued that the influence of telework may be not overestimated. (A)
