Samenvatting

Gripfibre is a patented microsurfacing system that uses polymer modified emulsion and synthetic fibres marketed by Jean Lefèbvre (UK) Limited. Under current arrangements, the system can be considered as a proprietary thin surfacing systemfor the purposes of certification by the British Board of Agrément. This report reviews the skid resistance and texture properties of Gripfibre based on a desk study of information provided by independent test houses from a range of Gripfibre sites. Mean summer SCRIM coefficient and texture depth data from road trials on Gripfibre are compared to results from adjacent sections with different surfacing, from monitored sites both with other asphalt types of thin surfacing systems with similar aggregates and with high friction surfacing systems. The comparison identifies possible additional areas where Gripfibre could be used beneficially. (Author/publisher)
