Samenvatting

Most accident in- depth analyses that are carried out around the world indicate that drivers'errors are responsible for a majority of accidents and other faults in road traffic. In this paper, man's role in the evolution of road transport is analysed. It is shown how two basic types of limitations have developed. Physiological limitations. Psychological limitations. A simple model is presented where an effort is made to explain driver behaviour, driver errors, and human limitations. The two types of driver limitations ar essential concepts in this model.
