Samenvatting
Details are given of the aid program which is the basis of the motorway control and signalling system in the Netherlands. This system operates variable message signs installed along the motorway. A before- and- after study was carried out to evaluate the system. The results showed that the system, currently used for accidents, traffic congestion and roadworks, is effective and reduces the total number of accidents considerably.
