Samenvatting

The telematics industry is being promoted as a very promising market with exceptional opportunities. Because of the promising market perspectives, several players are attracted to this industry. The concept of third-generation telematics, with its service-oriented architecture, is introduced here. This concept ensures optimal use of new technology on the one hand and optimal conservation of service provider investments on the other hand. The most important principle of this approach is to bring a service consumer in contact with a number of service providers, according to their own choice, with as much flexibility and potential as possible. The service providers make use of a virtual path to bring their services to the users, which abstracts the physical link to the vehicles. SmartMove has developed such a third-generation telematics system. The technical realisation of this new concept is the main subject of this paper. For the covering abstract see ITRD E114174.
