This article describes the reproduction and current expansion in tram services in the metropolitan area of Grenoble, France. The first tram line opened in 1987 and the second in 1990, with rolling stock adapted to users with mobility problems. The service is frequent and accessibility is being improved. A third tramway is under construction, creating a network with the first two lines. New rolling stock is on order and should be in use by the end of 2005. Improved passenger information services are planned. It is expected that the third tramway will continue the trend in the area toward reduced car use. (Author/publisher).
