Samenvatting

The new robust Truvelo Combi camera system, developed in South Africa, is an automatic speed and traffic light violation system for portable, permanent installation in one compact unit. Its Truvelo M4 MPC speed-measuring instrument and Robot 15mm camera combine two speed-measuring methods that are shown to be the most reliable and accurate. Multiple primary speed measurements are made using three or four thin piezoelectric sensors. A secondary check is provided by a photograph that is taken. Three user-selectable software options provide a choice of front or rear photography with one or two photographs. The system thus combines in one instrument three traffic management options and aspects of speed enforcement. Piezo sensors have the advantage of being very efficient in high traffic volumes, especially at sites with high accident rates such as bridges, tunnels and roads with dense traffic. They cannot be detected by any devices currently on the market. Front photography has the advantages of a constant distance between the camera and the front number plate, whatever the vehicle length, and the visibility of the driver. Two photographs record a vehicle violating the red phase at a junction. Many countries world-wide successfully use the Truvelo Combi system.
