The principles of seat belts for the VW-vehicles with a retractor which is sensitive to vehicle deceleration and to webbing acceleration is described. In view of the positive results obtained with safety belts in actual accidents, some of the requirements from the NHTSA appear not possible to be fulfilled in relation to the Severity Index.
