This report summarizes the results of the condition assessment of road markings in Sweden 2012. The measurements have been carried out using the mobile system Road Marking Tester which mainly is built up of a reflectometer and an optocator. The two units register the retroreflectivity and the macro-texture of the road marking, respectively. From the results, the following conclusions can be drawn: • On European roads, 38 per cent of the road markings were approved. The largest share of approvals was found in Region Syd, 57 per cent, followed by Region Väst, Öst, Norr, Mitt and Stockholm. • On national roads, 46 per cent of the road markings were approved. The largest share of approvals was found in Region Väst, 62 per cent, followed by Region Syd, Norr, Öst, Stockholm and Mitt. • On county roads, 68 per cent of the road markings were approved. The largest share of approvals was found in Region Väst, 87 per cent, followed by Region Syd, Öst, Mitt, Stockholm and Norr. • 21 per cent of the road markings were approved regarding retroreflectivity in wet condition. The largest share of approvals was found in Region Väst, 42 per cent, followed by Region Öst, Stockholm, Syd, Mitt and Norr. In most regions, the share of road markings fulfilling the requirements regarding dry road markings in the regulations was less than 50 per cent. For wet road markings, the corresponding figure was 21 per cent. The low retroreflectivity combined with small road marking area, has implied low visibility in headlight illumination.
