Samenvatting

Signalized intersections have always been considered as queueing systems in which the service time distribution is the headway distribution of departing vehicles. This paper suggests that it is more appropriate to consider signalized intersections as storage systems, especially discrete infinite dams subject to regular shutdown. Transient solutions for the distribution of queue length at each epoch and the departure time of each vehicle are obtained.
