Samenvatting

Bus prediction systems are widely used, but the accuracy of such systems is important. Ideally, most people want to know when the bus will arrive and have this information delivered at some location other than the bus stop. They can then time their journey so that they can arrive at the stop just before the bus. The accuracy of bus prediction systems is influenced by how changes are displayed and rounding effects on the display. As the bus proceeds along its route the prediction system will monitor its performance and adjust the displayed time. The key to delivering and measuring accuracy is in identifying and understanding how predictions work and what should be measured. The future of bus prediction systems is considered with reference to the RAPID bus priority and passenger information system from Saab ITS. For the covering abstract see ITRD E115762.
