Samenvatting

In the evaluation of protective devices and their adequacy, certain fundamental information is required. In the case of the laboratory animals, the energy required to cause minimal moderate of severe concussive effects can be measured. In the case of the human cadaver, the energy required to cause a linear skull fracture is important and may be used as an assumptive level of energy for a moderate concussive effect. In this paper, material in the dog and human cadaver has been utilised to establish some requirements for the effectiveness of particular protective devices.
