Samenvatting

This article briefly describes the Dutch traffic management programme for their primary road network. Four scenarios for future traffic management are described briefly. This includes the use of advanced transport telematics (ATT). A long term policy using the more sophisiticated ATT systems such as ramp metering and queue management systems is outlined. The short term policy, which should be effected by the year 2000, includes the installation of many of the basic ATT systems. These include the Motorway Control and Signalling System, the Incident Management System, route information systems, and traffic monitoring.
