Samenvatting

This conference was held in Mexico City in March 1994. It was organised in response to the concerns of governments that the growing numbers of motor vehicles in the world and the growth in their use particularly in cities, could have significant environmental and other impacts. There are two approaches to addressing these concerns. One is the make motor vehicles more benign in their impacts on the local and global environment. The other is to attempt to curb or even reduce the growth in the number of vehicles and their use. The conference was primarily concerned with the first approach, but also gave consideration to the second approach. For abstracts of selected indivdual papers see C 7866 - 7906.
