Samenvatting
Over the past years, travel demand management (TDM) has moved from an idea warranting greater investigation and understanding in the South African urban environment to a promising management technique deserving initial implementation action in the form of pilot projects and general public debate. As a response to government policy, TDM is needed to support improved spatial planning and efficient public transport, and would also offer significant environmental benefits. A pilot project is currently underway in Midrand and if successful the concept may be applied in other urban areas.
