Samenvatting

Worldwide there are already very many driver information systems in existence, of which 79 were compiled, structured, and examined with regard to their relevance for an inclusion in a pan-European system. The major results of this analysis are presented, so the state-of-the-art can be deduced. Before a standardized structure for information systems - particularly for in-vehicle systems - can be developed, the requirements have to be defined. For this, data was gathered (and structured) from extensive study of literature and from in-depth semi-structured interviews done in Norway and Greece. On the basis of this, architectures will be developed and presented for future comprehensive driver information systems that are transferable to a high degree. A scenario for an architecture will be presented consisting of 5 different levels, the lowest level constituted by the vehicles, the highest representing the international interconnection. Each level contains a control centre with horizontal data connections to centres of the same level as well as vertical data connections to the adjacent levels. This hierarchic structure makes it possible to transform the organisational and technological structures, which are different for each region and country, on a higher level into common functions that can be understood by all drivers in all regions via the respectively lower level.
