Samenvatting

This paper reports on work to establish a method for assessing the extent to which a specific in-vehicle information system (IVIS) supports the safety and effectiveness principles recently sponsored by the European Conference of Ministers of Transport (ECMT). A formal scoring and weighting method is presented which, while still requiring expert judgement, provides a basis on which different assessments can be compared and discussed. The method has been applied to two commercially available IVISs and compared with more conventional ergonomic assessments. The paper reports preliminary conclusions and possible implications of the principles and assessment method. (A) For the covering
