Samenvatting

In this report, the contribution of transport systems management (TSM) is reviewed as a means of control traffic congestion in major British towns and cities. Five key features for a succesful TSM are identified: (1) good quality public transport; (2) an inner urban ring road; (3) strict central area parking controls; (4) traffic management favouring public transport; and (5) environmental improvement schemes. The current development of road transport informatics (RTI) is also identified as a means of regulating road vehicle use.
