Samenvatting

In this case study, the authors present a rare case - a 31-year-old woman with a tracheal rupture associated with airbag deployment. Through study and discussion, the authors conclude that serious injuries may be caused by violent airbag function against "out of position" occupants. A rare life-threatening entity among them is tracheal rupture, which should not be ignored. Three basic steps should be followed for airbag-related trauma reduction: further technical airbag design improvements; general public education in air bag use; and public seat belt use.
