The Austin District of Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in the USA has installed Iteris' Vantage One Single Camera video detection system to improve safety and operation at intersections with railway crossings on one leg of the intersection. Traffic authorities have traditionally relied on inductive loop detectors on opposite sides of the railway track. This method is time-consuming and expensive. Video detection is a simpler and cheaper option. The Vantage One Single Camera system provides for up to 24 zones of detection per camera. TxDOT has retrofitted every intersection in the district with railroad grade crossings with the system. For the covering abstract see ITRD E115762.
