Samenvatting

Geographic Information System (GIS) is increasingly being recognised by professionals dealing with geographically-referenced information (planners, engineers, land managers etc.) as the most promisingtechnology for spatial analysis. Transport planners and road safetyengineers can use the technology effectively to analyse accident trends and profiles with greater ease and accuracy. Correlation of accidents with the ambient conditions can be studied and modelled with detail and therefore greater certainty. This paper describes an experimental project which uses GIS technology to manage an accident database for Singapore and the development of various application modules for interactive analysis of accidents. ARC/INFO is the proprietary software used in the development of the modules. (A)
