Samenvatting

Traffic accident information can be used as a measure of the safety level of the street and highway system. Road traffic accident data from two Malaysian towns, that is, Kuantan and Klang, were collected and assembled from the existing data sources such as from files of the local authorities and the police records. In particular, data on the accident type, location, date, day of the week, time of day, severity, types of vehicles involved, road surface conditions and a description of the spots or zones are interpreted. This paper presents a comprehensive and rational analysis of the recorded accident data. Specific identifiable engineering implication such as sight distance, road markings, signage, road furnitures are highlighted. Aspects of zonal analysis and black spots of traffic records as utilised for these towns were reviewed.
